This course combines all DECC Courses in one stack for the full DECC Series. 

Objectives

  • In Module 1, you will...
    • Understand why we have bias.
    • Recognize how explicit and implicit biases impact student learning and educational structures,=.
    • Identify how to address your own explicit and implicit biases. 
    • Utilize the NEA Racial Justice in Education Framework to address bias and promote racial justice in classrooms, schools, and districts. 
  • In Module 2, you will...
    • Describe historical and current inequities.

    • Identify how historical inequities have impacted the institution of public education.

    • Identify how historical inequities have affected students and families.

    • Identify specific actions you can take to disrupt white supremacy culture in public education.

  • In Module 3, you will also develop an awareness of institutional inequities by reviewing:

    • Instructional resources

    • Discipline policies

    • Accessibility to rigorous programs

    • Educational opportunities, and more

  • In Module 4, you will...

    • Define diversity, equity and cultural competence and their critical importance and use in educational settings.

    • Reflect on teaching methods and learning environment.

    • Develop and implement strategies to create a more inclusive and equitable learning community that values the cultural experiences of all students.

  • In Module 5, you will...

    • Discuss issues of safety and justice in our schools, including the impact they have on student learning.
    • Review case studies.
    • Identify actions educators can take to advocate for safe and just schools for all students.
  • In Module 6, you will identify how to effectively leverage culturally responsive teaching practices to:
    • Implement learning environments that value students assets (the lived experiences, perspectives, cultural, and community knowledge) that all students bring to school

    • Identify and incorporate student assets to create more equitable, student-centered, and rigorous learning environments for all children

    • Reflect on diversity, equity, and cultural competence and how they use this knowledge in their professional practice
