Description

Through a review of relevant research and resources, this course will support educators in a process of self-examination around some of the assumptions we may make about the effort our culturally and linguistically diverse students exert, then examine what energizes them to learn.

This course is a part of the C.A.R.E. Series. The C.A.R.E. themes (Culture, Ability, Resilience, Effort) are instrumental in helping to close the Achievement Gaps and are supported in part by decisions made at the school and district level. These decisions are essential to sustaining the changes and improvements that the C.A.R.E. themes foster.

Objectives

In this course, you will:

  • Understand the difference between effort and motivation in student learning.

  • Challenge assumptions we have around student effort and motivation.

  • Reflect on indicators of practices of communicating with and engaging students.
