This course offers principles and strategies that address the issues of culture, language, and equity.

 

This course is a part of the C.A.R.E. Series. The C.A.R.E. themes (Culture, Ability, Resilience, Effort) are instrumental in helping to close the Achievement Gaps and are supported in part by decisions made at the school and district level. These decisions are essential to sustaining the changes and improvements that the C.A.R.E. themes foster.

Objectives

  • Understand the definition of culture, the different levels of culture, and the impact on my students lives.

  • Understand the definition of culturally responsive teaching.

  • Understand how culturally responsive teaching impacts the linguistic needs of my students.

  • Understand what equity means and how understanding of culture and knowledge of diverse populations promotes relational and academic equity in the class.
