Growth occurs when you know who you are and you are able to assess and improve your practices. In this course, you will explore your attitudes, actions and behaviors and reflect on how they impact your coaching. As you unpacking your identity, you will learn about coaching and discover ways to improve coaching so that you are better able to meet the needs of the people you coach. Although many of the skills covered in this course can be used in other contexts (teaching, being an administrator, managing behavior, parenting etc.) you will learn how to specifically apply coaching knowledge with self understanding for more dynamic coaching. The goal of instructional coaching is to improve classroom instruction for learners and to increase teacher effectiveness. To do this many facets of instruction, relationships, and technology must be considered. These include a basic understanding of technology tools, exploration, an awareness of coaching models, and an understanding of diversity, equity, and cultural competence. But most importantly, it entails melding those things with the needs of your coaches and school district. Throughout the course, you will create a needs assessment to identify gaps in which teachers may grow, design a plan to improve partnerships, increase student success, and reflect using a digital product – like the ones you will learn about and practice as a coach. In this course, you will assess the quality of access and opportunity in community and family partnerships, then create an action plan to increase family and community engagement in your school or district. This course is a part of the C.A.R.E. Series. The C.A.R.E. themes (Culture, Ability, Resilience, Effort) are instrumental in helping to close the Achievement Gaps and are supported in part by decisions made at the school and district level. These decisions are essential to sustaining the changes and improvements that the C.A.R.E. themes foster. Read more
